Good 5.5 x 8" Earliest printing, bound with THE YOUNG EXPLORERS. A Texas classic, "the most literate of all 19th century Texas memoirs" (Jenkins). Howes D603, Jenkins Basic Texas Books 51, Graff 1188, Rader 1248, Raines p. 74, Agatha, p. 51, Dobie, p. 55. Cover is worn, edge and shelf wear, some fraying so spine edges, but cover is entirely intact, with gilt lettering still quite visible. Interior pages are foxed, brittle, fragile, browned; front hinge loose with string binding visible; rear hinge has slight paper tear but completely intact. End paper through page 10 loose; binding between signatures at p. 50-51 open, exposing string binding. Book protected by ascetate dust wrapper. 135 pp., 253 pp. Hand penciled previous owners inscription on first free end paper ("Thos. T. Donalson, A birthday present from auntie. ") Appendix is List of Men under the Command of Col. J.W. Fannin in 1835-36. Overall, despite flaws, is an intact acceptable yet fragile copy. Guaranteed satisfaction; booksellers since 1982.
